If you have been involved in an accident and think you suffered a blow to your head, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Head injuries are one of the most common causes of disability and death in adults. New York State emergency rooms treat nearly 400 traumatic brain injury incidents every day.

A person could go for days or weeks after an accident without showing any signs of serious brain damage or bleeding. Head and brain traumas are hard to diagnose because they usually require a Ct scan, MRI, or EEGs testing. Even after advanced testing some traumas are undetectable and can take months or years for symptoms to start appearing.  General indications of brain injury or trauma are as follows:

-Chronic low-grade headaches

-Having trouble remembering, concentrating, and solving problems

-Difficulty with reading and/or writing

-Vision changes or hallucinations

-Mood changes; feelings of sadness, irritability, anxiety

-Slurred speech or loss of ability to speak

-Poor control of voluntary movements

-Unusually aggressive behavior

-Difficulty with hand-eye coordination, impaired spatial orientation

-Tremors, dizziness, and nausea

Unfortunately, there are considerably more symptoms and even more serious lingering concerns. Again, head traumas and brain injuries are sometimes undetectable. If you or someone you know has experienced any new behavioral, memory, motor skill, or sleep symptoms after an accident, seek help immediately. These could be symptoms of a much more serious condition.
